How do I join?

Classes for NMSU Students

You can take the ROTC Basic Course Classes like any other college course without any commitment to the Military. If you are an NMSU student you can enroll in our course through your MYNMSU account. Our classes will be under the Military Science Department. 

Basic Course Classes

Freshman Military Science I: M SC 110 (Fall) and M SC 111 (Spring)

  • Army Leadership
  • Customs and Traditions

  • Goal Setting and Accomplishment
  • Health and Physical Fitness

Sophomore Military Science II: M SC 210 (Fall) and M SC 211 (Spring)

Earn Basic Course credit at The Basic Camp - Summer Training

Advanced Course Classes

Starting your Junior year you will be placed in the Advanced Course Classes that are designed to place you in practical scenarios that an Army Officer might encounter. You will also be given leadership positions that will be challenging. Your basic knowledge of weapons and tactics will be tested as well as testing your ability to work as part of a team. 

Junior Military Science III: M SC 310 (Fall) and M SC 311 (Spring)

Cadet Advanced Camp - Summer Training

Can I sign up for the Advanced Courses without taking the Basic Course Classes? 

Yes, students can receive Basic Course credit a variety of ways called Lateral Entry

a) Veterans or Reserve/Guard Soldiers 

b) JROTC/Academy experience can earn 1-2 years of Basic Course Credit

c) Basic Camp - Students who miss the Basic Course can attend the Basic Camp at Fort Knox, KY during the summer. 

d) Accelerated Basic Course - Attend M SC 1 and M SC 2 simultaneously
